Long before Bram Stoker’s Dracula scared (or wooed, depending on your vibe) Victorians into a frenzy, vampire tales were a staple of villages and cities alike. In times of plague and general unrest, citizens turned their eyes to the graveyard in preparation for the fight to save their souls.
Vampirism and stories of vampires are found in almost every culture, almost as ubiquitous as tales of floods and wayward nobles. For, just as death visits us all, so did the fear that it wouldn’t be enough to keep us in the ground.
