As a young, pre-pandemic person I LOVED going to the salon with my mom. We would watch Black classics like Judge Judy and bootleg Tyler Perry stage plays (!!). It was a safe haven, a space where we could be ourselves without fear of attack, whether it be emotional or physical. Hair has been a sacred feature of Blackness for generations; it was quite literally a tool of identification, and has become a way to care for one another.

“Hair Wolf”, the short film from Mariama Diallo, explores (with killer humor) what happens when that safest of spaces is infiltrated. It’s horror, comedy, and prophecy. Enjoy it below!
