Today we celebrate the woman who reshaped Speculative Fiction and Science Fiction by thinking outside the box in spectacular ways. Born on this day 75 years ago, Octavia E. Buter wrote 15 novels that challenged readers to confront the inequality and violence of our modern era. Butler would be the first Science Fiction writer to receive a MacArthur Fellowship.
